Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Riverline ("Riverline," "we," "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Riverline is a fly-fishing conditions and trip-planning service for rivers in the Northern Rockies. By using Riverline you agree to this policy.

Information you give us

• Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile photo from Google. We never receive your Google password.
• Content you create. Rivers you save, and any catch logs you record (such as date, river, flows, water temperature, flies used, and notes you choose to add).
• Location (optional, off by default). A catch log can include GPS coordinates only if you are signed in and explicitly check the location opt-in box on that log. We do not collect background or continuous location, and we never store coordinates unless you opt in per log.
• AI assistant messages. If you use the in-app chat, the questions you send are processed to generate a response (see "Service providers" below).
• Email updates / contact. If you sign up for Riverline updates or email us, we keep your email address and message. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, or from your account settings.

Information collected automatically

• Analytics. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly tool that is cookieless and collects no personal data — only aggregate page views, referrers, and device/browser type.
• Security and operational logs. Our hosting provider processes your IP address transiently to deliver the site, apply rate limits, and protect against abuse. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.

How we use information

• To provide the service — your account, saved rivers, catch logs, conditions, and recommendations.
• To answer your AI-assistant questions and support requests.
• To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
• To send you essential account or service messages (such as sign-in links). We will only send product or launch updates if you have asked to receive them.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Service providers

We share data with a small set of providers strictly to operate Riverline:

• Supabase — authentication and database (account, saved rivers, catch logs). Hosted in the United States.
• Cloudflare — website hosting, content delivery, and security.
• Google — only if you choose "Sign in with Google."
• Groq — processes your AI-assistant messages to generate responses. Don't include sensitive personal information in chat.
• Plausible Analytics — cookieless, aggregate usage analytics.

Public conditions data (river flows, weather, snowpack) is sourced from third parties such as USGS, Open-Meteo, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and NRCS. We send them no personal information about you.

Data retention

We keep your account information and content until you delete them or close your account. Aggregate analytics are retained in non-identifying form. When you delete your account, your profile, saved rivers, and catch logs are removed.

Your choices and rights

• Delete your account. You can delete your account at any time from within the app. This cascades to your profile, saved rivers, and catch logs.
• Location. Leave the per-log opt-in unchecked and no coordinates are stored.
• Access or correction. Email us and we'll help with access, correction, or deletion requests.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database access is governed by row-level security so users can only reach their own records. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

Riverline is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

International users

Riverline is operated from the United States and your information is processed there. If you use the service from outside the U.S., you consent to that processing.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
